Updated: Nov 2, 2019

Trying to determine what size painting you'll need to fill a space can feel overwhelming.

Here's an easy method:

  • Cut a piece of cardboard approximate size you think will fit the area.

  • Have someone hold the board in the location while YOU STEP BACK.

  • Observe the arrangement and ask yourself this question: WHAT AREA ARE YOU TRYING TO FILL?

Do you want your eye to be drawn to the furniture and art MAKING THIS THE FOCAL POINT?

If YES, the size of art you hang should BE WITHIN THE WIDTH OF THE FURNITURE.

If you are you trying to center the 'art' on the entire wall with a goal of making the ROOM APPEAR LARGER, and yet, the wall appear smaller to balance the weight of the entire room, you will want to extend the 'art' beyond the cabinet.

Hint: If you don’t have poster size cardboard, you can tape paper grocery bags together.
